We started our New York trip in style with a limo and champagne. (Sameer, Tasha, Shannon, Bryan, and Me)
In our attempt to get on TV, we spent the whole day before New Years Eve trying to find a Texas flag.
After an hour of sleep, Sameer, Bryan, and I got to Times Square at 3 AM the night before New Year's Eve just to make sure we got a good spot to watch the ball drop.
Beginning at 6AM, there was a parade every hour for whichever country in the world had their New Year's on that hour. My favorite float was the really ugly baby for England's parade.
During each parade, they threw something different out to the crowd: balloons, flags, glitter wigs, etc.
At midnight, things went crazy with confetti and fireworks.
I think we've all been deceived a bit by TV all these years. See that little spec at the top of this picture? That's the ball!
After the party on Times Square, we hopped right onto the train with no problem, but in order to get from our train station to the hotel, we needed a taxi. The taxi company said it was going to be 3 hours before one would be available! At that point, it was about 15 degrees outside, and there was no where to wait at the train station, so we walked to a nearby police station to wait till morning for the taxi.
We spent the rest of the weekend doing all of the things that tourists are supposed to do in New York. We went to central park.
We went to the Christmas tree at Rockefeller Center.
We went to the top of The Empire State Building.
We took the ferry to visit the Statue of Liberty.
Here's Ellis Island on the left and NYC on the right.
The sandwiches are so big that Sameer and I had to share one at Carnagie Deli.
Finally, we saw Les Miserables on Broadway. It was a great story, and the sets were incredible.
Here's Sameer and Mike resting in Grand Central Station.
By the end I think we were all exhausted. It was a great trip!
